this was 3 storied timber monument called kasthamandap which is believed to have been built from one single tree(sal tree-scientif name-shorea robusta) which has completely collapsed.at the time of disaster,blood donation program was going on.altogether 120 bodies were recovered from kathmandu durbar complex with 45 from kasthamandap itself.kathmandu gets its name from this monument-kasthamandap which means wooden plaza.so literally kathmandu means city made of wood.
